My personal XS11 has a sidecar on it. I have a spiffy XS650 Rigid frame that I built that will be next. Then I'll finish up a spiffy Cafe racer or maybe go purchase a nice new Guzzi. I'm much more interested in motorcyles than online tough guy contests.

These are voiced opinions not directives. The ones that have seen or endured the damage simply would like to help out the ones who have not. The people who have stated their animosity towards hardtails know that most people will want to make their own mistakes. That does not stop us from trying to help our brothers learn from our mistakes.
I owned a HD hardtail for 1 week then took a $500 loss getting rid of it as fast as I could. Got rid of it because of several things.
1- It was very dangerous in control and handling.
2- Potholes and bad pavement hurt like HE!!.
3- Gravel roads were a death sentence.
4- I had 2 friends who suffered from riding them.

If you want to do this then that is your choice, but don't fool yourself as to why you want to.

Quick and cheap

way to find out if that is the way you want to go is weld a short section of pipe to both ends of a larger/longer pipe (about the length of your shock) and replace the shocks with it. After riding it around awhile you should get a pretty good idea.

I made the sidecar, the whole works. Chassis,body everything. Used the same wheel for the hack as the bike uses in back. that way I have a spare tire along at all times. I figure I can ride in with a flat on the hack pretty far if need be.

No one is trying to tell you what to do.

Fred is nearly twice your age and has probably been riding all of YOUR life.

He might have some VALID ADVICE!!!!!

And just for the record I don't care what you ride or how you ride it!

But if you don't want to hear the advice the experienced people hear have to say I would suggest you go somewhere were they'll tell you what you want to hear.

most of us Canadians huddle up to the 49th parallel because the US Government won't let us move south to where it's warmer so we just have to tough it out and pretend we like snowmobiling. We reckon the fools and masochists are US citizens who choose to live in Alaska when all they have to do is get on a plane.

I've always said that anyone with a stick-welder could build himself a chassis but that making a decent looking body took a skill level way beyond my own. So my hat's off to you, Sir.
