  • 1980 XS1100 Fuel Tank Swapping

Can someone please tell me what tanks from other XS model years may be interchanged with my 1980 frame? Also, does the tank have to be from an 1100 or are the other sizes like the 650 or 850 interchangeable with the 1100 tank?

I have been trying to find a 1980 tank, but it has not been that easy. I was just wondering if there are any other years that I could possibly put on my bike.

    Thanks,

    Christian

650 and 850's not interchangable.............any of the 1100 tanks works. front cushy part of seat may ride up a bit on a standard tank if it's a special with a special seat.......either way, no biggy.....works fine. hope that helps.
81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

I have a 78 tank on my 80, just need to match model type (special to special and standard to standard) unless you want to deal with minor fitment issues, but you do need to stick with 1100 tanks.

I have a couple extra tanks. One is from an 80 special, one is a standard tank
that I don,t know what year it is from.I also have another special tank, don,t know year either.I think all special tanks are the same no matter the year. The same for standards."I think".But I could be wrong.Someone else here has a definite answer on compatibility I'm sure.

The Special tanks will swap between all years with no problems, as will the Standard tanks. The XJ uses it's own tank, and only fits the XJ. You CAN put the larger Standard tank on a Special, but it REQUIRES that you cut a small amount off the front of the Special seat.
The Standard tanks DID come in two sizes. The early US is 5.5 gallons, and the later years had a 6.3 gallon tank available. These tanks will also swap with no modifications.

Thanks for all the great info!

Rick (@Tarzan), I am in need of a standard tank for the XS1100. Would you consider selling yours?

              Thanks Again,
