Vibration - grips or bar ends or risers

I ran across a site about bar Vibration. They have a product called "The Bar Snake" a precisely gauged cylinder composed of a high-tech polymer, which - when properly installed inside tubular handlebars - dampens many high frequency vibrations that cause numbing as well as painful, even dangerous hand and wrist trauma.

I dont think the carb synch is the issue. It has been two days since it came back from the carb job. It rolls all smooth in all ranges.

Also, what I am mostly comparing to is my prior experience of riding a Suzuki Bandit 1200(long gone) at around 5000 rpm - which is rather rumbly maybe more than XS(?) but it did not cause the wrist pain issue then. The differences are that I am a few years older and different bikes.

1) I will definately go for a pair of gel grips and silicone inside (then later bar ends if still needed)

2) About the choice of a new handlebar, (it may be only me but) I kind of find the GL(referring to a GL1200A) buckhorn shape bar hard on wrists in a different way (horizontal pressure this time). That is why I am thinking of using a Bandit bar which has more dirt-bikish forward facing grip positions. I remember the Bandit bar being the most comfortable I have ever used.

<- Could you please correct me now if I am wrong to assume that XS takes any 7/8" bar?

7/8 inch bar is what the XS11 takes. Are the bars that are on the bike now stock bars? If not perhaps the hurting of the wrists is being caused more by the grip position then the vibration. Some styles of bars are just uncomfortable for some people. Might sound silly but sit on your bike on main stand with the engine not running and grip the bars as you would if you were riding. If after 10 minutes the position is at all uncomfortable the grip position is likely the real issue. Some bars turn the wrists outward or inward which puts stress on the joint, Vibration then shakes this already stressed joint causing pain and numbness. Best bars have the wrists in line with the arms at a comfortable reach from a normal seated position.

You are right on the fitment of 7/8 bars as long as the center section is adequate. Also fuel tank clearance on lock to lock should be noted. For me ,on my '80G as it commands more of an upright riding position I've found myself "reaching" for the bars so I think the pullback on the GL1000 bars is subtle enough that they will relax my elbows. I totally agree with you on the buckhorn bars as my XS650H has them. For me they are unsafe at any speed.

You are right on the buckhorn bars. Have them on my bike and it took maybe 10 minutes till my hands numbed up. They look great but handle real bad. They are the most uncomfortable I have ever used. Bought a new bar off Ebay last week but have not installed it yet.

Thanks for your comments on 7/8" bar and buckhorn style. Good to know that I am not alone on this. I am going for (looking for) a Bandit bar.
