  • partsmore gasket set

Things are going pretty good on my restore project. Head isn't warped and after rigorous cleaning, the valves passed inspection. Will lap them tomorrow. I was looking at the gasket set I got from partsmore and have a question. There are twelve O-rings 9/16" OD in the set. I haven't torn the whole engine apart yet, but can anyone give me a list of where all these are supposed to go? Also the kit has four large red O-rings. I asume 2 belong to the oil pump, is there someplace else or does the pump take all four?

    4 Large Orings

If you pulled the cylinders and flip them over.
There are 4 large orings underneath. I had a little trouble getting them in till I was given the technique.

If they are the ones you are talking about; here is the post when I had the problem.

Read down to Trbigs post he hit the nail on the head.
I think I read the smaller ones have to do with the valve guide 12 doen't seem to add up tho.
I did not use those either.
I'm sure someone else will know.

The 12 O rings are for the head studs where they screw into the upper case half (I think). I couldn't get them to go in on my last rebuild, so I left them out. They weren't there to begin with. Yes, the 4 red ones are for the piston sleeves.

Short note: the Parts - N -More kit does not contain the copper crush washers for the oil feed tube. I used 10mm ones, same as used on brake line banjo bolts, right ID but smaller OD, worked fine. You should be able to go down to your local auto parts store and match up the OEM washers if you don't feel like trying to re-use them.

After you crush 'em, the outside diameter will be the same also.
