I'm running a 140/90/16 Avon on my XJ650's rear and I got it from a buddy with about 70% tread on it for free, and I've put a little over 4k miles on it, and it's showing almost no difference at all in wear. Next time I spend money on tires, they'll be Avons.BARE BONES CHOPPERS: If it don't make it go faster, you don't need it!

I didn't have much luck out of a rear Avon Venom.. about 7600 miles and it dished out HORRIBLY way before that. Brent from Georgia didn't have good luck with his either. I have heard very good things about the tire and very bad things. Another friend ran them and got nearly 15k out of a rear tire, so he bought another one and didn't even get half that. He thought it was maybe a fluke and got a third one and it was like the 2nd.
SO.. It appears to may that they just aren't consistent. You may get a good one, you may not. Performance wasn't bad with it until it started dishing out early. That being said, an Avon Venom FRONT tire is the best handling tire I've ever had on the bike. I've tried several different ones for comparison.. and nothing has come close for dry or wet weather riding... but, as always, YMMV.
