Also check out the kill switch on the handle bar. Almost every one of those I've taken apart is seriously F'ed up and in need of attention. I don't think there was enough dielectric grease put in them at the factory... I don't know if it's as common of a problem as the pick up coils but I've seen it take a lot of bikes out of action.
