XS11 primary chain in XJ11?

Will an XS11 primary chain work in an XJ11?
Also, any thoughts as to why my chain would be missing teeth...?

Engine was making a "clicking" noise and i tore it down, eventually noticing that my primary chain is missing some bits...
Any help would be great.

XJ11 chain is the same as the XS11, same part #'s, 2H7-16139-02-00. Check the gears on the crank and primary shaft for damage.

there are some scuffs along the center of the gears where the chain was missing some teeth/links, but nothing missing or dented in the gear teeth. It just looks a bit more silver there instead of the sort of brownish color of the rest of the gear.
Its good to know that the same chain works in the XJ. Thanks for the info.

You can still buy new primary chains... but they sure aren't cheap.

Well, Tod,

They aren't as expensive as you would think since PNM actually sells them. THey list them in the XJ parts, but NOT in the XS11 parts, at least, the last time I checked they didn't, let me see! AHA, they've gotten smarter, they NOW list it in the Engine section for XS11's as well as the XJ's!

Thanks for all of the replies. Is the primary chain a common failure point? It looks pretty beefy and it is bathed in oil... Why would mine start coming apart?

I've never had/seen one go bad before. They just get a bit slacky and make noise. Might have been some debris at one time in your engine that got caught in there finking it up.

They are just as expensive as I thought. lol. I saw those there and that was the price I was thinking of. Much more than a cam chain..
