  • Bench valve adjustment

So I lapped all my valves and have the all the valves back in except two.
Tomorrow after work I will install the last two and want to adjust the valves
    before installing the head.
Should I install one cam and measure and adjust valves, then remove that cam and install the other cam and adjust the other valves?
I seem to remember reading a post about someone bending valves while while adjusting them on the bench. And that the valves might hit each other while adjusting without keeping them in time.

YES, one cam at a time.

I have only helped on this procedure with DBeardslee, definitely suggest only one cam at a time. If they are not tied in time by the chain, then one valve held open to far could/would interfere with the other valve opening and closing. Of course that could lead to a bent valve.

As stated, just one at a time.. but make sure you prop the head up on the edges with a 2x4 or something. When the valves open, they drop down further than the bottom edge of the head and you can bend them just from the weight of the head pressing on them.

It's easiest if you start with the thinnest 4 shims you can find. If you have a cam touching a shim, you're back to square one and you have to take the cam out again, put in a different shim, then re-install and re-measure again to be able to take it apart yet AGAIN to put in the right shim.

        Did I lose you?? lol.

No.lol, I got ya. I have two sets of shims, so I'll measure 'em and use the thinnest first.
          Thanks guys
