  • Carb springs 78 different from 80/81?

    Hi all,
Are the diaphram return springs in 78 carbs different from 80/81 carbs? The springs that were in my 78 carbs looks to be a couple inches shorter and diameter is about half the size of my other carbs.

I looked up the yamaha part numbers and those are different from 78 and 80, but that doesn't necessarily mean I have the right springs in my 78 carbs :/

I think I have a set of 80 carbs out in the garage. It is late tonight, but if you need to have me take the diaphragm spring out and measure it, I will at your request...tomorrow.

Yes, the '78-'79 carbs have different slide springs than the '80-'81s.

Thanks guys, these are the only set of 78/79 carbs I have ever had my hands on and they were known to be not working right when I got them.

Somewhere I had read something about someone trying XS650 springs in their XS11 carbs and noting that they were too short, so I wanted to make sure someone hadn't put 650 springs in mine while tinkering around.
