  • revs on its own

Quick question for y'all. my bike runs beautiful other than it seems to rev really high (3 to 4000 rpms) some times when I'm reving it up. It doesn't want to idle down very well. I looked at the idle adjustment screw while it was doing this and the throttle linkage was bottom out on it so I know the cables not sticking. It seems to do this worse if I have the enricher on or open half way. When it's closed it responds much better. The other day when I rode it home from buying it I stopped for gas. After I filled it up I started the bike up and the rpms climbed very high. I immediately shut it down for fear of damaging the engine. when I tried to start it back up it was hard to start and the it backfired. I guess when it shut it down at such high rpms it left some unburned gas in the exhaust. It was very cold outside by the way. Anyway I started it thisafternon and it ran good but still din't want to idle down. I know that they will run a little higher on the rpms with the enricher open but this seems way to high. any thoughts would be apreciated.

Well it sounds to me like it could have a vacuum leak. You can spray carb cleaner or WD40 or starting fluid around the intake boots and the throttle shafts and see if it changes rpm.
Also if the carbs aren't in sync the rpm's will climb.

Sych, tune and synch. If the carbs are to out of synch or tune, the idle will climb or not come back down like that.

I would agree on the carb sync. The leak might be an issue, but frankly most likely is going to be sync and idle mixture.

Check the carb boot rubber caps for cracks too.

I agree on checking for a vacuum leak and syncing them. Also check for torn diaphragms.

I figured check for a vacuum leak first since he said it is hard to start and backfires after it is warm.
