Is an oil cooler necessary???

no oil cooler for me

No I do not have it mounted any more for the reason I stated before also the fairing is removed as the bike sits up side down in my garage awaiting the second gear fix.

Was there any clearance issues regarding the oil cooler mounting in its stock position and the fairing?

mine works great and i think it will increase the life of the motor.

There were no issues with the mounting as it all came stock on my 81. I do remember seeing it tucked up in all snug when I got the bike, but never gave it a second thought till I lost the motor on my 80 due to the oil line blow out.

The line blew just a couple inches from where it connected to the motor, as i stated before the line just made a loop where a cooler should have been.

Now that you mention it Ken, I do remember
reading Dragonriders story.

xs1100rider, that really sux blowing an engine like that,
now i better go out and have a good look at those lines on my bike.

Are the lines actually rupturing or are the fittings the problem? Or is it the connection to the fittings?
