The Best of the Season to everyone
Is there a Yamaha part # stamped any where on a pickup coil assembly or any other way of telling what year the part is for?

Interesting question. I am not certain there is a difference between them form one year to another. I think the differences are in the plates they mount to and the timing plate etc.

I picked up a 78 pickup coil last year for my 79SF.
It had a different plug on it with bullets. I fortunately had a connector and spades to convert it.
      Everything else was the same.

The pickups themselves are all the same, but as Don and mentioned, the plate that they mount on and the rotor are different for the 81's as are the markings on the timing plate. You can tell by looking at the slot that the pointer on the rotor passes through. On the earlier models the slot is only about 1/8" wide, while on the 81's it's more like 3/16". Here's a shot of an 81 setup. If you look a little above and between the pickups you can clearly see the slot for the larger rotor pointer.

I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.
