Might try takin' the rubber band off the Sunday paper and run the top of your boot lace throught it and then you can just reach down and flip it off the choke lever when the bike warms up! Cheap and renewable! You could have it fixed in two more days...

She what sort of ideas you have when there is Eggnog and Brandy in the house!

Well I got my spring and bearing in for the choke detent and on the second attempt to depress the bearing to get the rod in it Happened. Thats right that little 1/8" bearing went flying through my garage. Should have known to order more than one! I went over every inch of the floor with a magnet with no luck. I'm a littled bummed over it, but manned up and mutled over to the computer and ordered 10 more. Thank that will be enough?

            Box

When I take the choke rod loose, I place the carbs in a semi deep box that way if it goes flying, it will be in the box.

There is a hole above the spring. Use a small nail to depress the spring and insert a sewing needle through the hole. Sewing needle will hold the spring tension back while you insert the ball. Feed rod through, pull needle. Done.

BTW, I lost about a dozen balls before i figured that one out.

Thats a great Idea. My problem however is that I just purchased this bike and someone had already lost the spring and bearing. In order to have my choke working properly I ordered new ones to install. I need to relax, take a breath and think about the best way to depress the spring and bearing to get the rod back through without sending the bearing into orbit. I was thinking something like putting a cloth on one side of the bearing and the rod on the otherside while depressing so that the bearing will stay in place until I can push the rod through.

Hey Randy, thanks for the tip. I'm trying to visualize what your talking about. I know about the hole where I put the spring and ball through. I don't quite understand the part about the sewing needle. If I put the needle on top of the spring to hold it back, won't it be between the ball and the spring? If so How can I get the rod through unless I fully depress the spring and ball into the recess under the rod

I just finished this up shortly ago with my project bikes carbs. What I use is a q-tip with one of the ends cut off. The stick part is strong enough to push the spring, and yet soft enough to "form" to the balls round surface, and fits through that hole nicely. It would not be to tough to lay a cloth or rag over your hand with the q-tip in it to contain the ciaos if the ball should fly loose. Only time that will happen is if you do not push it down far enough, the rod might push it out the side of that tunnel. Works well for me, YMMV.

Wow! I'm humbled DGXSER! That is a great idea! Wish I had of come up with it, but hey the end results is what we're concerned with. I was thinking that the reason the ball went flying is because it rolled under the pressure I was exerting with a small allem wench. The Q tip sounds like problem solved to me.

Hey Tom, I agree with you. I hate going to the dealer for anything. I always leave feeling like they saw me coming. But the good news is I found a local hardware store that had the 1/8" bearings. Got home and still couldn't get the daggome spring to compress enough to get the rod in. whats up with this? So after taking my LED flashlight and pearing into the recess where the spring goes, guess what there was two bearings stuck in it I hadn't seen before. I had to tap on the side of the carb for a while and finally they fell out. Spring and bearing went right in with out a problem and slid choke rod through smoth as silk. Ok so everyone reading this can shake their head in disbelief at how stupid I am. Got way too exicted way too quick!
