This is true. Bohn's bikes are so clean and command such respect that dust just doesn't fall on them. I wish mine looked half as good.

I have a pressure cleaner. Or had until the hose busted. Just one of the cheap portable units do a real good job without degreaser. I believe I gave under $40 for mine. Now If I can just find a compatable connector for my new hose!

I would have done that already, but I don't own a pickup, and I'd get my ass handed to me if I did it in the wife's Yukon.

                    Engine cleaning

                    Ivan,
Good ol' Gunk engine degreaser worked for me, except that they now make it in a foaming gel that clings to where ever you spray it. I then used a variety of brushes to scrub the really tough stuff. Used a few cans of it, but it got all the crud off.
Before painting I "rinsed" the entire engine with acetone unsing a natural bristle (cheap) brush. This ensured that there was no residue that would prevent paint adhesion. So far, so good.
Beware, though, that the VHT paint is NOT fuel resistant. Any drops of fuel will mar the finish, as when you're re-installing the carbs or tank!!
                    Good luck!!

                      Clean freak

Ok.. Being a clean freak, the easiest way to clean is with a high pressure steam cleaner. Castrol used to make a product sold at Wal-Mart called Super Clean. It is still sold at Wal-Mart but not under the Castrol name. It is a very good degreaser but wear eye protection when spraying. Last but not lease, carb cleaner to maintain. Once you get it really clean, it just takes a few minutes to maintain. Ya'll have a happy new year!

I bought a can of that without really reading the destructions. It says not to use it on motorcycles. Any idea why?

I can't think why. I have used it on both my bikes several times. That said, I got tired of the smell after cleaning so I found an alternate and switched to it. It's called "Purple Power" and I got it at my local auto parts store. It's supposed to be 100% biodegradable and it works! Gets the grease off and then rinses off without that smell. The only thing to consider is that I have found that polished covers need to be polished again after the cleaning as it WILL mess up the look.

I have been using the Purple Power stuff, and it works OK. Letting it soak in for a few hours helps immensely. I need to get to the store and buy some shout. I want to give that a try.

                                Gunk

Since it is a petroleum based product, they probably think we'll spray it on a hot engine and create vapor cloud that more that likely will be ignited by our cigarettes. (All us "Bikers" are beer drinkers, smokers (pot & Cigarettes), fight and terrify the normal folks right?)
