  • DIY whitewall for all models

Well im not sure if i am allowed to post this here, if any mods need to move this please let me know.Well i finished the 11sf and 1 week after riding i had a fuel leak from carbs....major.... a buddy of mine called and asked if he could start it up to show his dad.....i said sure..i guess, big mistake. the bike has a hidden kill switch and a hidden start button. he thought the battery was dead so he rolled it out of the garage(thank god) and began to try and jump start the bike.
he turned the fuel to prime and it just kept pouring out ....he didnt notice?
anyhow he started it and began to remove the negitive jump....and bang....
instant explosion....bike went up in flames. that was my baby.
but i needed to change a few things anyway...leaking carbs wheels and motorwork. i will be posting pics of the after effects soon. the engine has been overhauled and dressed up....lots of custom work. i tried to purchase new whitewall tires and came across the same prob. as usual. none to be found for this model...dont wanna change rim size..i could just dont want to.
so how to get whitewalls when there are none....i have seen the white wall paint...at $120 a can, Tire paint at $20 a can and even people on youtube saying to use regular white paint.....hmmm not on my bike. so what to do.
well i am a licensed contractor and i happen to know chemicals and chemical compounds very well. so i thought what about seal a flex for roofs...it elastomeric and wont split crack wear or anything for atleats ten years..then you just reaply. so do i have any hmmm yes but only gray and red top coat.... i have primer for epdm and rubber coumpounds.....so i went to lowes...and then homedepot and forund white elastomeric roof compound its called ultra roof 1000 and comes in a few different sizes. its perfect bright white good coverage and just what i needed. i gave it a few light couts and the a finish coat. the wheels look great. oh and remember if you decide to paint your rims try and not use rattle can if you do whitewalls if you do use rattle can be sure and tape off the rim on re installation or you may discolor the top coat...if that happens a good spirits will remove this problem.good luck and merry Christmas

Andrew - Welcome to channel 11. Very timely post - Randy was just bemoaning the fact that Bridgestone S11's aren't available with raised white letters in a 130/90-17. I'll pass this along to him - if he hasn't seen it already.

Dunlop 402s come with a whitewall and nice Harley Davidson branding. The only reason I could ever see putting a whitewall on an XS11 would be in an emergency or when one wants to endure all sorts of rhetoric from his "firends"...

I'd let you have mine, but it is going to take its rightful place on my garage wall once I get all those that were there to sign it. I shall tell stories of that trip for years to come.

        Listen to Ivan, Sir...

He's an 'authority' on this subject...

Believe me when I say to you... 'He knows what he's talkin' about... at least when it comes to high quality whitewalls!'

        HeHeHe LOL HeHeHe LOL

Why don't you post him a pic, Ivan? Show him what one looks like all mounted up and ready to roll? I think you still got that one on display, don't you?

( I may have just really pissed you off, Buddy... Sorry...but sometimes I crack myself up!)

Help me out here, Harry & Russ... I'd ask Tod... but I'm afraid to...

Ivan... I pick on ya cause I like ya, my friend... don't be hatin', now...

Ya gotta admit... that was funny right there now...

          Hi Andrew,
          welcome to the forum,
that sux the bike caught fire, hopefully you'll be able to repair it.

          just a note tho,
never disconect a battery on a running engine, whether
it be a car or a bike, itll cause all sorts of problems.

also if u didnt know, when the carbs leak from the back, its
usually caused from the needle and seat not sealing.

i'm not trying to start a war or anything, but i do love the old school look, but i am gonna have to see pictures before i can really make up my mind. anyone with some pictures of a xs with whitewalls should put them up and we can all make an educated vote!

Hmmm........ pink and white with purple and pink lights.

It'd make a real pretty wedding.

                Hi Andrew and welcome,
I chose option #3 because that's the nearest to how I feel.
I actually don't give a toss if my tires are whitewalls or not.
I would not choose a whitewall or a RWL above a plain black one.
I can't see the tires when I ride, eh?
OTOH, I ain't so anti RWL that I'd take a sander to the tire to remove the lettering.
Except if it helped the tire clear the swingarm.

Well... it's kinda more like a bluewall in these pics (I will abstain from voicing the joke I see in that)

I REALLY like the look of the whitewalls on the bobber styles... This is kinda cool to know... thanks for the tip and welcome to the forum!

                      Thanks, dbeardslee.

I did see this trhead. and, BTW, found that Duplicolor makes a product called Hot Tires. Tire paint in a pen. Comes in red, white and yellow. Looks like just the ticket for the lettering I want.

Doesn't come in pink, though, but red+white mix well!

                          Hi Andrew,
since you ask, that riding position coupled with an unsprung seat on a hardtailed frame will make your chiropractor a rich man and turn you into a cripple before you are 40 despite his best efforts.

looks BAD!!! In a great way. the riding postition looks a little hellish, but i love the red and white on the tires...(despite the color of my bike now....) let me know how the hard tail rides, it sounds like everyone hates them, but it can't be that bad, can it?
