  • Guage/Cluster bulbs....would like LEDs

Okey dokey.....Pulled guages off of Frankenbike..recieved my indicator assembly from Andreas (Thanks Andreas!!!), and they all take the same size bulb. the mystery bulb. Toshiba A12V3.4w No such puppy at the local parts store. One bulb was a Stanley replacement, but had the same numbers scrawled across it. Any ideas? I left emails at SUPERBRIGHTLEDS and another one called LEDLIGHT.com No reply yet. went looking on the sites and so far, can not find a replacement....am i screwed here???

easiest is to measure the bulb and compare it to the measurements provided by superbrightleds.com. That is what I have always done.

A standard automotive 1895 is the closest match electrically, as that is rated at .27 amps (the stock lamp is .28 amps; watts divided by volts = amps). These have a slightly larger glass envelope, so you might have issues fitting these to the gauges. If the LED 'equivalent' has a small diameter like the stock lamps, no problem. The automotive 1891 has the small envelope, but is rated a bit less; the bummer here is it's rated life is only 500 hours (the 1895 is good for 2000 hours). The stock lamps use a standard bayonet base, so anything you find at the parts house that looks the same will work, it just may not be quite as bright although I doubt you could tell the difference.

You might also try an industrial supply house that carries electrical control parts. They'll have heavy-duty lamps with the same voltage/watts ratings as many of the common automotive lamps but with higher hour ratings.

The ones with the flat ends on my 81 are 194 bulbs. You should be able to find them that way, but the rounds like that I can't recall this moment, but 118 seems to stick in my head. I bought a package of the incandescants at autozone for a buck and a half.

Let me know how the LEDs work out, I have often thought of doing that, but it would be #67853 on the list of things to do.

The LED bulbs from Superbright work fine, have them in my dash for a couple of years now.

                  LEDs are cool.

                  Yes sir, Crazcnuk

i went off of that write up and installed led's in my 79sf
but i ended up swapping back to a incandesent for my low fuel idiot light.

that circuit must be resistance dependant and leds change that.

other then that i found they where cheaper on fleabay direct from hong kong.
even with shipping they where half the cost of the websites.

i used these 2 sellers and found them very reputable
virtualvillage-usa & enkmall Both are in Hong Kong
shipping takes 12-15 days. both handle the small gauge LED bulbs.

do a search on fleabay for: LED T4W Ba9s 1895
that will give you 3 pages to look through.

I had a few issues with the reserve lighting device, at first, but they ironed themselves out. The only problem I have now, is the HID will shut off if the voltage drops too low, like at idle.
