  • Tubeless Rims

Looked in the FAQ and Specs section but didn't see this info. Did the '80 or '81 1100 G & H models (standards) use rims rated for tubeless tires? My '79 1100F uses tubes and I would much prefer tubeless tires. Thanks.

Yes, 80 models were tubeless but you can use tubeless tires on older ones too. They are the same wheels. Some people who don't know better will argue that but I've compared them side by side and they are identical.
You will need to pickup some new valves though.

They are *nearly* identical. I got a front and rear both rated "tubeless" from ebay for around $25 plus shipping a few months ago. Just beacause two things look identical to the naked eye does not mean they are identical, take Cat3 and Cat5 network cables for example. To most, they look the same, but one is rated for up to 10mbits/sec and the other is rated for 100mbits/sec.

But then again, the chance of a catastrophic failure is far less on the front wheel than on the rear, where all the power is put to the ground.

On my 78E there are no tube tipe/tubeless writings...
Bout the cables... the pinout is different for 10 or 100 Mbit...

They are NOT all the same. The rear rim (‘’78-’79) has rim lock holes that would need to be plugged and sealed. The front rim has a noticeably smaller web around the inside of the rim and thinner bead shoulders.

Can they hold a tubeless tire (without the tube)? Safely? Can’t tell you. But, one should consider what they have riding on these rims and know that there are some differences.

The gain does not seem to be worth the risk (IMHO).

My rear wheel has two holes that appear to be for rim locks, in any case the holes are not machined the way tubeless valve stem holes would be. This makes me think that the wheel is not suitable for tubeless tires. I've got a local salvage yard checking their inventory for '80 or '81 wheels so that I can compare them.
