  • Special Brake Caliper - how to take off

Looking at the Standard manual didnt help much. The Special manual doesnt cover it. It looks like there is only one bolt holding the Special front brake caliper. I loosened the bolt but it is not coming off. Could somebody please point it out if I am missing bolts? Or, is it a matter of yanking it off stronger?

Yep, just one bolt. The only other thing holding onto it is the brake pads on the rotor. Try un-bolting the hose from the caliper and see if it lets go.

Hold the phone on the yanking!!!

It's a two part process to get that bolt out! If you have not figured it out, there is a nut and lock washer on top you loosen, then on the bottom of the caliper, there is a plastic cover over the bolt itself. You need to get a socket up in the recess to remove the bolt from the fork.

If you have removed the bolt from the fork completely and it is still stuck on, I would take a screwdriver under the caliper and against the rotor edge and pry the caliper off that way.
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Making progress. Front wheel and brakes are on the way to the powder coater. This is way too much fun.

And make sure you check that bolt for straightness as you remove it. If your caliper moves from side to side slightly when you unscrew the bolt then replace it. It is not uncommon for these bolts to slightly bend and set the first time you apply the brakes. If it is bent slightly you will never hit the sweet spot using the original bolt.
