  • Honda Venture Fairings

Same guy I might be buying the motor from has a Honda 1300 Venture Wind Jammer, Panniers, Tail box etc.... (The full venture touring set) in his yard, and willing to let it go for R2000 (Bout $200).

Will the 1300 Venture kit work on the XS?

Again......obvious he is clueless or full of bull. Honda had no such bike! If it came off a honda, mount will NOT fit. Vetters fairing will fit all the older bikes, and even had a guy on the ST owners site mount a Vetter on his ST after original tupperware got crashed. Dern thing actually looke pretty good wit it on there. Made his own mount! The Bayoccassionaly has the mount frame you will need for the xs11 and just litterally plug and play the rest.

I dont know how close the fitment of the fairings would be, but both bikes are yamahas.

Maybe the guy is confusing your bike for a VMAX.

The Venture and the Venturer are 2 different bikes. The later one is the XS platform.

Had a look at them today. They have a Goldwing look to them. Apart from the brackets I need to make and bend, I think it will look good on the XS

If it is a venturer, make sure you abscond that high capacity fuel tank!

                some more history

                Athedra,

As others have also said, "Honda 1300 Venture Wind Jammer", means the guy has no idea what he has.

When you saw it did it say Windjammer on it? Usually on the left and right side in white. If yes, this may be one of the models of fairing made by Craig Vetter before the manufacturers wised up and started making fairings, bags and trunks for their touring bikes. I had one on my 78 wing, and still have them on one of my XS11's. As others stated the mounting bracket was the bike specific part that adapted the Vetter fairings to the bike. The other place that you might identify it as a Vetter fairing is on the wire harness plate.

The 1300 Venture is a different Yamaha and came dressed from the factory, I do not think it would be easy to mount that on the XS without having more fabrication experience than I do. This bikes did not come out naked, so I doubt that there would ever be a Wind Jammer mounted on one.

                Regards,
                Scott

Had a look. Dont see anything referring to Wind jammer or vetter on the fairing. Unfortunately the big bore cost me more than expected, so will be skipping the touring kit for another time.

The Venture was Yamaha's answer to the Goldwing. The 86 and later models did have a 1300 V4. If the engine is still there and doesn't run, see if you can nab the tensioners, they are a great set and forget replacement for the XS11 tensioner.

But the fairings... Well, I could see them possibly fitting, but you would have to be damn ingenuitive and resourcefull to do it. Also, they are all ABS plastic and since the last of the first gens rolled out in 93, are at least 17 years old and possibly 24 (based on the 1300 engine) and to be honest are probably more brittle than hard candy.

The Vetters and such like that were atleast made of fiber glass and hold up better.

Personally, I would be more tempted to just leave it be. But, I do have an old Venture that I thought would be easy to restore, and I am damn near sick of it now. Might just strip it down and call it a V-Mix.

Nope. The Vetters are all ABS as well. No fiberglass was ever put in a Windjammer of any series. This includes the lowers, trunk and saddlebags as well. Vetter sells a product called Hotcha that is supposed to be great at repairing all the Vetter parts, and any other ABS items.

And I have found the ABS to be no more brittle than it was new. A good solid long lasting tough plastic.

Paid R8000-00 for the big bore with 1200km on it. The PO tried to fit his bike on the back seat of a car. Didn't fit through the rear window, so stripped the motor out and got rid of the frame (aka he had an accident). I had to pay a bit extra for some odds and ends I wanted to replace on the frame.

For those of us without a currency converter, that's somewhere in the area of $1,067.00USD. I was curious, so I looked it up. That's more than TWICE what I paid for my bike!
