  • Vacuum pipe routing?

I bought my bike with the hoses all disconnected.
    Just want to double check.
hoses in the intake boots go to the petcocks.
upper hoses on the carbs go to the intake box along with the crank case breather.
where does the vacuum advance connect?

my tank is out being cleaned so I cannot look at it but I believe it had another hose connection besides the ones for the petcocks
    Bike model XS1100F

Does anyone recall what it is for ?

    TIA

That would be the overflow. Comes off the back, yeah?

        Hi Dan,
to be exact, the connection at the back drains the little pocket the effin' stylists sunk the Standard's flush-mounted filler cap into.
It drains any gas overfill and all the rain that runs in there.
It also makes fitting a Standard tank onto a Special more of a chore as you must notch the front of the seat pan to clear the outlet tube as well as simply shortening it.

          As ever

You are more correct than I, Fred.

I can fit my standard tank on the Special, but only just.
Perhaps, due to manufacturing variability, my bike has a bit more room at the front of the seat, or the front clip on my seat has been bent.

At any rate I was not forced to trim anything.

No, the vacuum advance goes to the carb, the petcocks go to the carb boot. There will be two lines on the #2 carb, one to the boot for the petcock and the other to the carb itself for the advance. Do NOT attach the advance line to the boot, you will NOT like the result.

                right!

I forgot about the connection on the carb itself.

                thanks all

                  Hi Dan,
I'm not trying to pee in your cornflakes, it's that I reckon one has to be absolutely specific when posting stuff or some of our less experienced list members may get confused.
