  • Custom Blinkers, Hazards, Horn and High Beam question

    Hi All,

OK, I have a question for everyone. Is it possible to have custom controls for Blinkers, Hazards, Horn, and High Beams? I was talking to someone (a mechanic) that said custom Blinkers and High Beams are possible (for the low price of $100+ not including the parts) so I'd like to try and take the task on myself if possible.

I seen some of his work, it looked like he had a switch for the blinkers, and then talked about putting in a separate switch for the high beams (a little switch that went behind the headlight). Does that sound remotely doable by a determined novice?

Mikes XS has something you might want to consider?? And about half the price. Just no hazard switch. When I was rebuilding my 81SH, got a switch assembly of an earlier model with no hazard. Spliced into the harness near the hazard flasher, mounted a switch under the left side cover, was a double throw double pole switch, that way the regular turn signals would still work, but can flip on the hazards when needed. Helps to be able to find your way around a wiring diagram though!

Yeah I seen those, I was trying to do something custom but I think those are going to have to do. I like the idea about the hazards though. What about the horn??

I would have responded sooner but I found myself hypnotized by your avatar... so I did end up going with both left and right switches from Mikes XS (that plus a whole bunch of other things). Once I get everything in and start putting it all together, I'll be back here searching for the answers to my questions =)

              Hey All,

Running into a problem with this. Just installed the light switches, but when I turn the bike on, my breaklight starts blinking. Did I cross some wires or something? Does it have something to do with the hazard lights?

                Hi thewright,
Your brake light is not broken Wires crossed is a likely explanation.... I'll let a real guru tell you which ones

                  slow off the mark again..

Here is another source for a switch that fits the 7/8' bars we have. I'll be using one of his switches for the extra driving lights I am mounting. There are several other electrical bits on his web page that I wish I had known about when I did some previous rewiring.

wish i could help you with the wiring...but as my wife knows ( she helped me rewire my entire house/garage) my knowledge of wiring is "slightly" more advanced than: "Black is hot, white is not, unless it is"
