  • 1981 xs1100 special float height

does anyone know float heights for 1981 xs1100? All I can find is 78-79 at 25.7 in.

Int he Clymers manual there is an added chapter in the back number 12. It depicts the changes for the 80-81 model years.

Specified float height for 80-81 carbs is 23 mm +/- .5 mm.

my manual says,, 25.7 MM plus or minus 1 MM

I know there are two different carb systems, and my YAMAHA manual is not year specific, there were mikuni early and I think hitachi late carbs. Youre prolly safe with using the figure for the mikunis but dont know about the others. I have seen written here,,,,, that the float setting is 24 to 26 MM, that may be good for the hitachis, maybe best to set it right at 24.7 to 26 mm, since that would be inclusive of both specifications. Have also read that shoot for the middle at 25 MM. I hope this helps. I see that someone has beat me to it, do what he says, and so will I with my eighty, thanks for the info. Tom

The XS11 used Mikuni carbs throughout the 78-82 (and later in Canada) models including the XJ.

so they all have mikunis , ok, thanks a lot

So there was no model with Hitachis then. Very good to know. I read about hitachis on here, so others may be confused also.

There may well be some that have put them on their bikes as a mod, but I am not aware of any models coming from the factory with anything but Mikuni.

              They all came with Mikuni's.
23mm is the float height as DGXSER stated. As long as you have carbs from
              an 80 or 81.
As far as I know the XS11's didn't have hitachi's.Although the Virago's did.
Also some XS 850's had Hitachi's.
Mikuni's are much easier to work on and are less finiky anyway.

FYI, the XS850's used the Hitachi's in 80 and 81.
