  • Needle spring required

Anybody have a supplier for the needle spring for a set of 78E carbs. I went to clean and rebuild this set and one of the darn things is awol. It is #9 on the pic below and is not available from Yamaha. If anyone has a spare they would part with it would be appreciated as well. Thanks

I have a set of 80 or newer carbs and the needle spring in those is different than the older style used on the 78. The actual spring is larger in diameter and wont quite fit. Thanks for the offer though.

No prob. What it you use the 80's top cap and spring in the 78's needle?. Dont know if it will work, but worth a try. Will keep an eye out for a set of 78's anyway.

It is actually the small spring that goes around the needle and inside the slide. It is about 1/2 inch long and 1/4 inch in diameter. #9 in the pic, its a little hard to see. I dont think changing the top cap would help. Thanks

It's Yamaha # 2F0-14589-00-00 and Zanotti Motors list it on their August 2009 stocktake, they had 1 in stock. Give them a call 724.283.5419 - Mon - Fri 11-2 you may be lucky !

Benefiscal Showed it originally for an XS650E & F.

Lawnmowerpros parts house in Kansas shows it as well.

Checked MikesXS but he only has the newer spring.

You miss under stood me there, If you use the spring for the 80's model, and part #10 of the 80's model. Wont part #10 make it possible for you to use it on the older carbs?

If I understood you correctly, the only difference is the OD of the spring, so part #10 should have an OD that can support that size spring. Can still use the normal circlip on the needle, but part #9 and #10 will come from the newer set of carbs.

Not having seen the carbs on a 79 11, I can't say for sure, but if they are BS34 II's like on the 400's they use different sized slides as well.

Athedra. Everything from part #7 to part #16 is different between the two sets of carbs. I had the two sets side by side and there is no way it can switch. I appreciate your input, but it wont work. Good idea tho.

I tried to order it from Lawnmowerpros. They did not have it and they quickly refunded my money with an explanation. Red Bandit I just PM'ed you. Thanks.

Your not going to believe this, I am not sure I do. I came out to the garage to put the carbs away to await the arrival of the spring from Red Bandit. I knocked my magnet off of the counter (I had been using it to see if I could find the spring) and when I picked the magnet up the spring was there. Hell I was not even sure the spring was here at all as the PO had been obviously playing with the carbs.
