  • Plastic floats

Rebuilding carbs and a few of the floats have holes in them, another caved in under very slight pressure so; I have decided to go with the plastic floats available from Mikes XS.

Can can you still use the stock float height dimension?

    Happy Thanksgiving

I've worked on early carbs with plastic replacement floats before and IIRC, I set 'em to 22MM. I think I tried the 25MM setting first and it was way too lean, YMMV. I know others have done it and I'm sure they will chime in.

      Thanks Phill:

Looks like the stock setting will leave them lean which is about 24 to 26mm.
      Have a good Turkey day.
Looking foward to what others have found.

I've got the plastic ones, and I set them the same as the brass ones. No problems. I found that the tabs barely needed to be bent with viton tipped XV920 fuel valves. With the stock fuel valves I had to round off the tabs so they wouldn't catch on the lip of the seats, and the tabs had to be bent a lot.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

I too used the plastic floats from MikesXS on my 79XS11 Special. The only problem I had was when I ran out of fuel one day, one or more hung up on the float bowl when all the way down. I pulled them and filed the front of the float down with one of the wifes nails files...(A used one). After that no more problems.

Of course it was used.....when you were finished with it.

If the tabs need to be bent a lot, you might instead think about thicker fiber gaskets if that is the direction you need to go. Of course in dbeardslee's case, if it aint broke, don't fix it!

Good tips binding floats was somthing a few of you guys have mentioned.
seems like over all the plastic floats have been widely used with decent sucess.

                  Thanks to all
