Two main items I can think of are the main switch (key switch) and the emergency stop switch on the right bar. Turning left you will put a stretch on those wires, if you have a loose connection or stretched wire it could break it when pulled and go back to touching when returned.
I would turn the bars hard left, then with the fuses pulled, do a continuity check from the red/white wire in the fuse box to the red/white wire on the starter solenoid. That could identify the e-stp switch.
Then put the fuses in and see if you have power at the three fuses that get fed by brown wires. The power goes form the main fuse to the key switch and that switch feeds the larger brown wire back to the fuse box. it is spliced into for the other two brown wires feeding the red/white and red/yellow wires. So if any and all of those brown wires do not have 12 volts, then the key switch could be the issue. HTHLife is what happens while your planning everything else!
When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt.

Might sound dumb, but have a look.
I had the problem of the bike just cutting out when turning with the steering wheel. After a lot of searching and hunting, found it to be a short in my fuse box. Every time I turned, my leg would catch the cover, and instigate the short. When I straightened my steering, the whole bike would come alive again, obviously because my leg would be missing the side cover when straightening my steering.'79 XS1100 (2H9) named Bones

intermittent electrical problem
Engine cut off, then would not start.
I just fixed a similar problem on my 80XS1100SG.
I checked & cleaned connectections at tip over switch under tank; disconnected then bypassed tip over switch - not solved.
I cleaned engine stop switch at (R) handlebar - not solved.
I checked for bare or broken wires along sterreng head & into headlight bucket; no help.
Eureka - The small brown wire coming from the fuse block had a poor connection in a butt connector. (I did a so so job of installing fuse block and connection only lasted 7 years). Now soldered with nice $20 butane soldering gun from Radio Shack; insulated with shrink rap and tape. Hitting on all 4 consistently is good
Another bike gave me headlight problems when I turned bars. Where wire flexed, it broke inside the insulation. Looked fine, untill I streched or flexed it.
Good luck wrenching,

Brent,
Those little butane soldering irons are the bomb-schnizzle!
Cody's got one... way cool! I stopped using solderless connectors, and now cross twist the ends in a linear fashion, solder the joint, then slide the heatshrink down, shrink it.... way better connection... and it won't pull apart.
Yet it splices the wire in alinear fashion, just like a solderless butt splice would do. Nice & tidy.'82 XJ1100J Maxim (has been sold.)
