Emblem replacement or refinishing

Here is my update. I got the tank emblems from MikesXS, but found out the mounting holes for the XS11 are wider than the XS650. So I have a good deal for any 650 owners out there

Next I searched high and low and found nobody in Oklahoma that could plate plastic. But an internet search lead me to www.eliteplating.com in Dallas that can. They said they could plate what you see in the photo below for $75. The plating will be on the background as well, but if they can do this for $75, I'll gladly paint the background black



I'll let you know how it turns out. Sure would be nice to have someone that can bring life back to these old emblems for a reasonable price

They said they could replate in gold.
Quoted 65 to 75 for a tank badge, includes redoing the black.

That guy has some great looking replicas. I checked his site out earlier, but the four pieces I needed would run me around 200 bucks However, if I needed a replacement for a broken or missing emblem, that is the go to place.

Oseaghdha, there is a story behind that name I found that website during my search and learned alot about the plastic plating from it. Based on the prices posted on the website I got cold feet. The price they quoted you isn't bad if you just have to have it, but again I would be over 200 bucks.

While you're shopping rechromed plastic, try Mr. G's. Seems I've dealt with them in automotive restoration in the past with good results. It might be worth contacting them.

Speed and sport, bloomsburg ,pa 570-784-6831 or a coat of black spray paint, paint the letters with gold leaf paint and then clear coat the whole thing. I've done it a few times.

Here's another sequence about refinishing emblems:

Scuff the surface of the letters with some 220 or so grit, and give the whole face a shot of primer:



Next, shoot the whole thing with a nice gold, then a layer of clear:



Now comes the tedious part:



Use black model enamel, and a fine sable hair brush to paint in the black background:



Good task lighting is a must, along with a decent binocular magnifying headset:
