  • Turn signal flasher.

I apologize if this has been addressed, but worth putting out there and being salmon slapped.

I took apart my flasher and sprayed it down with electrical cleaner. Plugged it back in when it was dry and "exercised it" with the cover off so I could see where the contacts were and then I cleaned them. I put the case back on and she works fine. At $100 a pop on a bike that I may move on just wasn't too pleasant of a thought.

Hope this saves someone else from chucking a good one.

    No Salmon Slapping, sounds good.

But where are the PHOTOS so we can make it a tech tip?

However, many/most folks replace them with a 2 prong aftermarket type, they just loose the self cancelling feature, but they are a cheap alternative also.

Yep, I've taken those apart, filed the contacts to get 'em working. It's even possible to tweek the contact gap to get a faster flash out of them. Sorry, no pics.

I was just about to post a flasher problem, will look at the contacts a little closer then.
Right flasher doesn't work anymore, use to . Bulb is ok. The instrument panel just stays yellow. Also it seems that my back running lights work sometimes but mostly not.
What kind of electrical cleaner do you use?

Wow, they are using salmon now. I thought trout was the preferred slapping medium.

            Self cancelling?

            Hi TC.
Is the self cancelling feature work off miles or time passed?

              Hi Al,
there's a reed switch in the speedo that counts the innards going round and sends that info to the self-canceller. For sure if the bike is stopped at a red light or so the flashers will just keep on flashing. I've seen it posted that the self-canceller also has a timer function but you can't prove it by me.

The timer is only in the game while moving. It's supposed to be something like 15 seconds or 100 feet, whichever is shorter. So if your going slower than 100 feet in 15 seconds it will cancel at 15 seconds (or something like that) and if your going faster it will cancel at approximately 100 feet.

If anyone is interested I have 2 working flashers. One of them is new. I put on aftermarket signals when I first got the bike and they wouldnt flash. I thaught it was the flasher so got one off ebay for $40 then I found this great site got a 2 prong flasher and they flash. Just pay the shipping and they are yours.
