  • optional taillight mounting?

I got this Corbin highback seat that was stolen out from under me on ebay(thanks knightops) and I have to remove the grab bar from my SG to mount it, the problem is , as you know, the taillight is mounted to that grab bar.

I'm sure I can build a bracket for it but I was wondering if there were any other solutions anyone can offer.

    thanks

    79 Special fender

I had kind of the same issue...

A 79 fender did the trick... the tail light is mounted lower on the fender...

Greg... You could always mout it to the fender like the standards....or get a LED replacement....JAT...

If you dont have a taillight bracket, i have 2 at home from my standards. going to keep one jussincase, but you are more than welcome to the other if you need...

post a pic so i can see what the rear end looks like, and what the new seat looks like if you can. I may be able to come up with something if i can get both the left and right side of my brain working together

              Hi okie,
you could remove the small chrome plate illuminating light from the plate mount. Use the holes to attach a smaller stop/tail light or to bolt on an adapter plate that mounts the stock giant tombstone light.

Having just remounted all the gadgets to my freshly painted rear fender, and looking at the SF bracket shown, you might see if anyone has just the SF bracket shown, it looks like it would mount straight up to the SG or SH fender with possibly the existing holes.

Here's what it looks like. Pardon the dirty bike, it works for a living.

(sorry about the blurry pics, took them with my razor)

It looks a bit large for a special. Better suited for a standard with the larger tank, proportionatly. And it doesn't fit well around the special tank.

I have another one coming over Thanksgiving a friend is bringing me, I'll have to see how that one looks.

It's off of a SF though so I'll still have the same taillight problem.

PM me about the bracket Tom, I'd like to see if that would work.

Thanks for all the great ideas y'all.

Kat, that is one thing I had thought of. You have a great looking bike, I'll have to go to your pics and take another look at your rear end.

Fred, your idea is good also. I am kinda partial to my cute little chrome tag light though. But, if it has to go, it has to go.

Tom is helping me out with that bracket change DG, looks like it might work but there goes my cute tag light again.

I went to O'Reillys' and AZ and looked at what they had just for shidizzles and gdizzles. AZ flopped, O'Reilly's had a pretty nice oval, about 6 x 2, LED with a chrome outer finish ring that would work mounted directly to the back of the seat. 1 or maybe even 2 of those might look good.

                    $28 each though.

I moved mine back to make it more visible. It's a little crude and needs some refinement, but I used a couple of short pieces of slotted angle stock to fashion a bracket to mount the tail light to my license plate light. It does the trick, but it's not as secure as I'd like it to be. IIRC, I had to splice the wires to get the extra reach, too.

Not a closeup, but you get the idea:

I know this, because Tyler knows this.
