I am wanting to add some hangers to my bike as the next step to my bobber/rat project. I have already blacked it out...check thread "Painted!" if interested in pics...and I am ready to continue. My question is as follows: What size ape hangers 12" or 15"? Any advice with this? Currently I have what look to be buckhorn bars and my throttle and clutch cable seem pretty long as they already stretch towards the driver. Check out the pics from the other ad and let me know if I will need to order longer cables. Also how difficult of a process is it to change out these cables and where can I order them if I need them? As usual you guys are always very helpful and I am looking forward to the feedback.

P.S. Where should I attach my ignition box when I put the bobber seat and cut off the back end? Can I just screw it to the bottom of the bobber seat?

    my 2 cents worth..

    Investigate your states laws.
some have height restrictions of 12-14 inch tall.

    some states suck..

Yep... Buddy of mine has some monster apes, and keeps them "just" loose enuf to yank down if the "fuzz" comes around.... i didnt say he was too bright!!!

As far as the ignition box, im working on jamming a 79 seat to my 80 so that i can use the rear cowl to house my taillight. the seat pan hit the ignition box, so i moved it forward/down to where the tool box would meet the rear inner fender.

Here is Cali your hands when on the bars can only be shoulder height or lower. I see lots of guys with apes that keep them slightly loose so they can pull them back and down when cops are around. Seems like having your hands that high would make the blood run out of them and make them go to sleep. While it might look cool (although not in my opinion) I think it's a stupid thing to do. I don't mind if their up a bit, but only if they are comfortable when riding.

Someone asked me about those the other day, all I can figure is the handling would have to suck!!

You might try rerouting the cables. If the cables/hose need lengthened then you might be able to take the old ones to a bike dealer and match them up by eye. I worked at Honda and we hung all our cables so it was fairly easy to do.
A longer hose should be fairly easy to get.
Custom cables can be made but they are costlier.

I have taller bars on my bike (like that when I bought it) and I find them to be fairly comfortable. I haven't measured, but the look to be 12" or 14" tall and I'm using stock cables all around. I don't think you could go any higher without a longer clutch cable at least.

I'm 6'-2" and my arms are basically straight out as long as I'm not slouching. As far as handling is concerned, I've never ridden it with buck-horns to make a comparison, but I feel like I have plenty of control, even in the twisties.

This is the best pic I have of my bars:

how tall are the ones in the picture? I am thinking I will go 12" or 15" but do not want to have to put on new cables or rerout.

I'll write myself a note to measure them and take a better picture tonight, and then report back. I'm not really sure why I've never measured them before.

Ok, I measured them and each segment is 12" long. Any longer and stock cables would not quite fit.

                        I know I said I'd take a better picture. I was half right. I took a picture.
