I checked the various thread on oil coolers, and didn't see what I was looking for. I was wondering if the oil cooler and oil cooler plate on my XS850 will fit on my 78 standard?
Thanks,
Scott
The XS750's, 850's, 1100's, and even the later Ventures and V-max's use the same oil filter cup/fitting, so the oil cooler from the 850 will fit the 11's engine.
Now whether the radiator will fit the frame or not is another question!

Hi Scott the oil cooler from Your 850 will work but is smaller with only 4 passages for the oil to flow through as opposed to the Elevens with 7 passages. Your adapter plate will fit on the Eleven but the hoses won't connect as the Elevens frame crossmember won't permit them. The Elevens adapter plate hoses attach on the left and right sides as the 850 of course are in front. I started to make hoses to fit the 850 adapter plate when used on the Eleven by cutting the ends that attach to the plate off the hoses ,flipping them over pointing down, using weld on AN fittings on the cut ends and do the same with the cooler ends and make new hoses but I scored an Eleven cooler & plate setup from a fellow XSer so I put that on my I'll get back to that list but it is very doable. HTH Good Luck!

Thanks,
That helps out. I can keep my eyes open for an XS11 set up, but plan B is convert the one from my 850, Plan C is use the 850 plate and an XS11 cooler (seem to be on ebay quite often). I can was planning on new braided lines either way as I am not sure I fully trust the old ones very much.

mine haS a cooler but not adapter for the bottom of the motor...
it has the hose that goes to the cylinder head going to the cooler and then back to the other hose on the cylinder head...

Some folks have just tapped into the oil supply hose/line that runs up the back side of the engine head, cut it in two, and then plumbed the hoses to and from the cooler/radiator and back to the head, simple really. Some folks have worried about lack of pressure and supply to the head but I've not heard of anybody actually having any problems with oil starvation or premature cam wear with this setup....unless your hose breaks of course!

Hi T.C., Thanks for jogging my memory. I do remember reading about that somewhere but had the same thoughts about starving the the cams. IMO I wouldn't take that chance. I'll be using the Elevens stock adapter plate Plumbed through a 180 degree F oil temperature thermostat to either the stock Elevens cooler or a '82 Seca Turbo cooler which is identical in size only the mounts are at the bottom. The mounting of either will be decided after I mock up the pacifico fairing to verify clearance. Also I'll be using weld on AN fittings after i cut the stock hoses off of the 850 oil cooler lines (saving the stock elevens 'cause thy are rare) and making my own hoses.
