    I'm back :D

    Well, I fixed a 2nd gear issue on my old XJ11, sold it to my buddy, and bought a 95 Kawasaki GPZ1100. As much fun as the GPZ is, I still missed my XJ, and I just bought another one . I got a great deal on this one, and it's in excellent shape. This one has a bum 1st gear and a bad clutch though. Winter project .

    Quick question for you guys. Is the engine very hard to remove from the bike? I remember how hard it was to flip the bike over, and I think I'd rather pull the engine and put it on a bench.

    Why would you want to pull the engine? If all you're doing is the gear fix and the clutch, you can do all that on the side stand. I've done it many times already. Of course, my experience is on the XS, and not the XJ, but it should be the same. No need to flip it upside down either. There is a little struggle with the shift forks when re-assembling that way, but a piece of wire (or a long thin screwdriver) to act as a temporary shift fork shaft will hold the forks in there with enough flexibility that you can assemble it from underneath.

        Hey, Metrogtiguy...

        Welcome back. Great to have another XJ guy in the crowd!

        Bike looks good...

        Green usually isn't one of my favorite colors, but it looks good there...

        Wild fairing! What kind is that?

        I also noticed you also are missing the 'Maxim' badges on your sidecovers... I'm waiting on a place overseas to start sending me the first shipments of some repro badges they made from one I've sent him. I'll be selling them here before long, (hopefully,) if you're interested.

        Where in the world are you located? Might consider adding that to your signature & that it's a Maxim. Helps us out... and sometimes can be a help to you as well. Might be someone nearby to lend a hand if you ever need it.

          The green suprisingly does look good on her. It looks a lot better in person too. It's actually a Yamaha fairing, dealer option. It has speaker holes cut out in the pocket covers, just no speakers. The previous owner was nice enough to leave the amplifier in there though . It even has 2 12v accessory outlets! I'm thinking of mounting a marine radio in there somewhere too. I kinda like the more minimalistic look without the big gold "MAXIM" in the middle of the side covers myself. I could go for a set of new tank badges though, all the paint is coming off of them.

          Oh, and fixed the profile info I completely forgot to fill all that out earlier. It's been a while since I signed up on a new forum.

            Didn't they call that the X1 fairing or something like that? Very nice looking XJ and I love the green.

            It is easy enough to do the tranny fix on the centerstand (if you don't mind laying on the ground), don't think it would be as easy on the sidestand.

            So, does anyone have an idea why the XS's tranny problems are usually 2nd gear and the XJ's are usually 1st ?

              I gotta be missing somethin' there that I can't see... LOL

              Care to enlighten, so that I may see? (I need a lot a light these days, it seems...)

              And I hear ya about the Maxim emblems, mine's the same. Guess it's all in one's perspective and how we each look at things. When I look at my sidecovers, nicely re-painted, but missing the emblem... to me it's a clear sign it's been re-painted, and really bugs me. Others see it as 'cleaner looking'. To each his own. That's cool.

                Well, If you have a lift to work on, the Centerstand is definitely the way to go. I usually do mine on the ground, and the side stand seems to give more room for my head under there. Of course, I don't have a centerstand though.

                  If this is a serious question, my guess is that it is the old school video game character MegaMan, and he is supposed to be head-banging while playing air guitar.

                      Bug, if the sidestand works for you then by all means have at it.

                      In my opinon, if you have a centerstand, the elevation it gives to the bike over the sidestand all the way around provides more clearance then the uphill side of the bike on the sidestand.

                        I repainted mine on my XS.

                        Base painted with black laquer and did the letters and stuff with a gold plastic model paint pen. Like for model cars and such.

                        Then clear coated it. Looks good if you don't get REAL close and see where I colored out of the lines.

                          Haha, yea, megaman is rocking out. And I think the green paint is a bigger sign it's been repainted . I was thinking about breaking all the bolts loose on the centerstand, and lifting it up a little bit with the engine hoist, for some headroom. Might move around too much on me though. Oh well, I have all winter to figure it out.
