The correct float height is 23mm +/- .5 mm. I did this with a credit card as well to make a go/no-go check. Cut one side at 23.5mm the other at 22.5mm as long as the smaller one hits and the larger oen does not they are good.
I also checked mine with air and gas before installing and for me it was no 4 that always leaked until I switched from automotive type fuel line to the Briggs and Stratton yellow stuff I found at a local hardware store. It does not take much to dirt to hold one open. There is somethign getting itno the no 2 valve or if you have not replaced them, it may just be that worn and need new ones.
As to the center stand, I stand on left side of bike, left hand on the handlebar, left foot on the centerstand step, right hand on the seat rail about midway back of the rail. Pull up and back with right hand, pull back with left hand and step down on left foot pulling right off the ground at the same time. Typically she goes up wihtout a fight and I have to let off at the balance point so she does not slam down on the stand.
