Anybody out there ever put special handlebars on a standard? I had one of those moments last week, while I was on vacation at home with lots of time to ride, where I just wish I could have the last 10 seconds of my life back. Just got done putting slotted rotors on the front and back out of the garage to go for a ride. Jumped off to close the door.....crash.....bike went down in the drive. Long story short....the handlebasr bent a little. Not enough to notice either driving but you can see a crinkle in the chrome. If I decide to replace them I was thinking of putting on Special bars. Are there any known obstacles in my way. Anybody got pictures of such a configuration?

It shouldn't be an issue other than the front master cylinder angle is different and is a lil harder to fill the reserve. The clutch and throttle cables are the same for both Standard and Special AFAIK. You *might* have to reroute cables a little, but I doubt it.1979 XS11F Standard - Maya - 1196cc (out of order)

They remind me too much of work!!!!
If you go and try pushing a wheelbarrow first and see if you like that kinda feel it might answer your question. I for one can't stand those bars! Just my opinion but it hasn't changed since 1983 or so. I think the opposite would be better but that don't do much for you. Merriam keeps going on about LTD bars but I wasn't slick enuff to find them on his site, maybe you can! (In case yer wanderin' I got clubman bars up-side down and I LOVE the look and feel ..........TEHO)

I went from long to short bars on my '80 special. My cables are now longer than they need to be, and I can't see a way to route then any differently without binding them(causing clutch slippage and throttle stick. Of course the master cyl. is an issue too. You don't want that tilted if you can help it. I, personally think, that you might have to get longer cables, and a special master cyl.1980sg-Stocker-- Sold
