I bought an XS1100 new in 1980. Wore it out , bought a used 79 model and it was superior to the "80". More power and much better milage., 50 Plus MPG on the highway, why so much difference. I now have another 80 model and it only gets 37MPG, about the same as my Escort Station wagon.

The 79 should have better power due to more restrictive carburation for emission control on the 80. Not sure about the gas mileage though. My 79 gets 36 city/ 41 highway MPG. Glad to hear you're keeping the faith with XS1100s.

        Mythical fuel mileage???

My old 80 midnite got 49. I checked it several times. I don't know what Battlecat gets but I'm convinced it is very s#%*@y. I'm sure it (80 midnite) was somewhat lean but it ran like a bat out of hell! God only knows I tried my hardest to blow it up cause all I really wanted was a big bore!!!!! Sic part is the idiots I finally sold it to did blow it up only they ran it out of oil. That was a looooong time ago. P.S. I do like the looks of my SF better now for some strange reason (that is before I ran it over like a dog cause now it looks like a dead dog that should'a been buried a long time ago) Not to say that midnites don't look good to me still, just prejudice I guess!
