  • Lucas Oil Addative

I know there has been a few people on here that have used the lucas oil stabalizer with good results for slipping clutches.....question is how much do you put it? Do you follow the directions and replace a quart or just a squirt?

I don't get too technical about it, I use about 1/4 of a bottle.

Also, I think I am the only one I have heard of that uses the lucas stuff...

If you try it, let me know what you think

      good results for slipping clutches

Is the clutch worn out, discs out of spec?
      or just slipping?
      Are the plates glazed?
Have you done the "extra steel plate mod?

      Just curious

I'm not sure what the PO did to the bike... I haven't tore into the engine or any other internals. I know I put synthetic in it when I got it and the clutch slips. I replaced it with the 20-50 oil and it seems better but still slips. I was going to try the lucas before I tear into the clutch.

How many miles have you ridden since you changed? Sometimes it takes a while. It did me.

Gotta work that old crap out of the friction material.

well not very much. My Dad had me zip tie my clutch lever to to the handlebar and let it sit...so the oil could get between the plates and soak in. The yamaha dealer told him to do this after his own trail bike sit to long and the plates dried out and stuck together!?!?!?! I wouldn't have believed it unless I seen it those things were stuck!! So now when he parks it he zip ties the lever to the handle bar so the oil will circulate. I'm not sure what it will do the the springs but it will save the plates.

Don't use additives. There is an article around here somewhere nailed to the site. Changed my mind forever. The oil companies clamor to make oil more than it is. If there was something better to put in it, it would be available in the oil already. Lucas causes frothing of the oil. Air is a crappy lubricant.

I have used many of the Lucas products in many different vehicles over quite a few years now. I rarely use the oil additive in mororcycle engines because as Project has stated, it can cause foaming of the oil. If you keep the amount down to just a few ounces it most likely would be OK. I am not sure that it would have any effect on a clutch however. What it is excellent for is use in the middle and rear drives. I use it at 100% in any gearbox and have for a long time now. My 650 Maxim had a very noisy rear drive when I first got it going and I thought that I would have to replace it. I drained it and put straight Lucas in it and it absolutely quit making noise. That was around 20,000 mi ago!

If there are more than three bolts holding it on there, it is most likely a very important part!

I use Lucas products in my derby cars,it lubricates well when they are hot.
I add nothing to my bikes oil.
As stated it will take some time to get the synthetic out of the discs.I had a dirt bike and one of my XS11's that had clutch disc's stick together. One I got it that way the other I used the wrong oil.In both cases I had to break the clutches free the first few times I ran them until the additives from the previous oil was worked out of them.

Sorry, but I haven't seen anything but circumstantial evidence about Lucas causing frothing.
