inside the clutch cover there is a little tab there to hold the cable in place... how important is that and how do you get it back on if it falls... how was it held on (strong adheasive??)

BY little tab I assume you are talking about the tab on the cable holder that bends down to keep the cable in place, right? I've always considered that part to be a bit of overengineering. Most bikes I've worked on don't have it because the tension on the clutch cable itself and the notch on the end of the cable will hold the end in place. If the cable isn't popping out I wouldn't worry about it.

It's actually a metal piece, welded (?) to the throwout arm. It's not very strong to begin with, so I would think it would be fine to not have anything there at all. However, my paranoid mind would probably convince me to strap a zip-tie or something on there anyway...

I'm sure Andreas will have about a hundred of those actuator arms laying around. You might contact him and see if he'll sell you that if you want to have a piece of mind about it.
