  • Clutch and break

    Hi All,

Got a bit of a question for you. I need to replace my handlebar gadgets (break cylinder, blinker switch controls etc.) , and I'm looking up a parts list that I came across on one of our fellow xs11 members websites but the images are a little small and I can't see exactly what I need. I know i need the bar switch assembly and the master cylinder, but not exactly sure which type to get. I seen a lot on mikesxs website but there are so many and I'm not sure what to choose from. Can someone let me know what they're using? The source I'm referring to is: http://www.mikesxs.net/products-60.html#products looking forward to hearing back from someone. Thanks in advance!

The master cylinder you are looking for is the 16mm bore unit part # 08-0265

I contacted MikesXS via email to inquire about the handlebar switches (both sides) and was told the following. The unit for the right side (run/kill) will work without issue. You can get the chrome model or black. I prefer black.

As far as the light hi/low, turn, horn,hazzard.... that wont work. im sure it has to do with the hazzard lights, imho. im sure one of the XS Gods on this site know of a way to bypass that if needed to utilize a brand new unit.

Why would you bypass it? The hazard flasher is part of the stock left-hand control on mine. Nice feature to have when parked somewhere dangerous.

I agree. A very nice thing to have. But the controls from MikesXS do not have that feature. not sure how the wiring would have to be frenched in. im sure only a wire or two not hooked up, or is the hazard feature completely internal with it combining the left and right blinkers???

Oh, sorry. I thought you meant the new control had them, but your old one did not. That switch is rather complicated IMHO. The flasher unit for the hazard lights is a different one than the turn signals use. However, if you have one on, then turn on the other, it over-rides the one that was on. I've taken that switch apart and cleaned it, analyzed it, and tried to figure it out, but it still makes no real sense to me. All I know is that mine works!

Hey All, thanks for the responses. So if I understand this correctly, the left bar controls won't work unless the hazards are bypassed? Do you know of any other website that sells the switches that will work?? I've checked a few but couldn't find those switches, found a few other things, but just not the switches.

You can always try Ebay...but make sure you get good pictures of item. ive been trying to get a set of indicator lights (hi/low oil nuetral) that still had the original paint markings that were in good shape, but none i have found look better than the ones i have now.

                Hi W1,
pretty please more info on your file and a signature line that shows what bike you have?
I had to deduce from context that your XS is 80 or newer because '79s don't have a hazard light feature.
Mikes 16mm bore front brake m/c will work but the XS11 has an 11/16" (17.46mm) bore m/c. A smaller m/c bore gives a better brake feel at the cost of a longer lever movement. Swapping to stainless brake lines will tighten things up to compensate.
Mikes turnswitch don't have the 4-way switch underneath but will work everything else.
You could perhaps fit a separate 4-way but that'd clutter up the bars and getting it wired is something I'd hate to fight with.

Afirm-a-titty.... i forgot to mention that if you go with the Mikes unit, you will want new SS lines. Even if you dont go with the new M/C, i would replace the stockers for the new. better performance and looks. we all know these bikes "go", but need substantial amount of "no go" due to weight!!!!
