  • Installing front M/C ???????

Any takers on the best way to install a new front M/C ?? Unit is new (from MikesXS) and bone dry. I have heard to bleed the unit first, then the rest of the front system. How does one bleed the M/C by itself? Looking to try and get this done this week while it is raining (btw...new stainless lines as well). BlackSunshine is "garage running" and I would like to take it for a spin to see if there are any other issues that need fixing this winter, but right now as she sits, it would be all go, and no stop (i prefer to bybass the 'tree' method of stopping!!!)

Where's your sense of adventure man...

If you want to bleed just the MC, fit it up, fill it up, wrap some rags around the bars and exposed paintwork and expose the banjo nut at the hose connection. Give the lever a pump or two and hold the pressure with the nut tight and then crack it open to let the air out. Hold the lever in while you tighten the nut back up and repeat until you get fluid at that point. Or, the way I would do it is crack the banjo at the 3 way joint under the lower steering head clamp and follow the same procedure, and then repeat at each caliper to get any remaining air. Or buy a mightyvac and follow the instructions that come with it.

      Hey Tom,

Brian has good info there, and an alternate way is to remove the front banjo from the MC, and even have it off the bike (so no fear of brake fluid on paint) and put your finger over the banjo hole and push the plunger in until it about pushes your finger off then crack your finger off the hole to let the air out. Repeat until fluid come out pretty solid.then without letting the fluid out, put the banjo bolt and hose on/in. This is known or commonly referred to as "bench bleeding" the MC.
