  • Gas tank for xs

May be you folks can help me out.I`am looking for a tank that will fit a 78 XS-11E.The rust has ruined the stock tank and I would like some either close to stock or something with a single fuel petcock. Any ideas? thanks and ride safe.

I see tanks for XS1100 Standards all the time on EBay. There are several on there now.... some with the Buy Now feature.

I don't know if a single petcock tank would flow fast enough to support the voracious appetite for fuel the 1100 can develop.

If the tank only has a small rust hole...... you might consider a nice tank sealer and patch kit from...

    Hirsch Motorcycle Tank Repair Kit

The kit comes with a tank cleaner, metal etch/rust remover, a sealer and a patch for anything larger than a pinhole. I plan on getting one of them soon. My tank was badly dented and lots of surface rust on the inside. I was looking for a new tank myself since it had been patched poorly by the PO and has a cluster of pinhole leaks near the top that do not leak gas.,..... but DO allow fuel vapor to leach thru and blister the fresh paint. The note from Hirsch that theirs is the ONLY tank sealer product used in aircraft is a good sign.

      tank repair

You can also send your tank to that Renu place. price range for them to redo the tank and have a coating on the inside is $150-300 depending on how bad it is. they have a 100% gaurantee, lifetime warranty too if i remember right.

i have a tank one the way to use till i can send my original there. then i can custom paint the original when i redo the whole bike.

        1 petcock?

There is at least one on ebay right now. You know if you run only one petcock thats like losing 1/3rd of your tank! Of course if you ran low on fuel you could always stop and lay yer bike on its side then pick it up and go again just like an old dirt bike!!!!!!!!!!!

          gas tank for xs

Laying a xs over on its side to get more gas , will most certainly make some gas but not in bike.{when trying to pick it backup}I found a good buy on a xs 750 tank and side covers and wonder if it would work on the xs-11.If it is going to be to much trouble I`ll check out something else. Thanks I needed a laugh
