I was riding Incubus today and I heard a nasty rattle and the bike started sounding a lot like a hot rod. Got it home and I found the 4-1 header had worked loose from the muffler. So big deal; just a loose clamp. The bike has been running very well and has a smooth idle.

So instead of reattaching the header to the muffler, I'm thinking that I've got a nice set of Jardine 4-2 pipes on Succubus, the problem child bike that WILL NOT IDLE. I've stripped and cleaned the carbs on her until I got to where I can go from fully assembled to carbs-on-the-bench in less than 20 minutes. I've checked compression 50 times. I have checked and rechecked valve clearance. I've gone through three sets of pickup coils and several wire transplants. I have several TCIs that all tested good on other bikes. I had run out of things to check. That bike has power to kill, but it doesn't have it until over 3,000 rpm.

So, I think, I'll teach that bitch for sure this time. I'm going to strip her pipes and make Incubus a little prettier. That'll show her.

The transplant did not go very smoothly - those pipes are heavy and the mufflers don't separate anymore - but I got them on. Nice bling. Pretties the bike up nicely. Let's rake them out and see how they run, I think.

I start it up, and the first thing I discover, to my chagrin, is that Incubus, with these pipes ... wait for it....

WILL NOT IDLE. Holy ****. Seems like some kind of blockage. The pressure from right to left feels very different. The right side puffs strongly. The left has little, constrained puffs. I put the 4-1 back on and Incubus purrs like a kitten again.

Poor Succubus. It was never her fault.

      Isn't that always the way?

Now I'll have two running XS11s.

Awesome discovery Patrick! And now you can just clean out some pipes and have two awesome machines.

time to Roto Root the pipes........i hate when something so simple is SOOOOOO overlooked that you just want to kick yourself.... had a similar issue with my 86 Chevy big block...seems that during the off season (aka major repairs) from 4x4 mudding, a rodent took up residence in the manifold...blocked it up REAL good.....THAT was a gooey mess to clean up!!!
