850 spec. seat on an 1100 spec.

Someone please tell me that an "80" 850 special seat will fit on a "80" 11 special.

If it's no let me down gently because I already bought it and it's on it's way to my upholsterer buddy Texas for a new leather coat.

I haven't seen it in person yet, just pics and I really can't tell.

    It's a way cool high back king&queen.

    Hi Greg,
I can't tell you that. What I can tell you is the seat off a 1979 XS750 Special won't fit because it has hinges on the right side and a latch on the left.
WTF, if the XS850 seat don't fit; a seat with a fancy new leather coat should do well on e-bay.

the seat cover and the pad should be the same , but the pan may be different , and it has a completely different latching setup . you may be able to make it work . but in the future you may want to check before you buy a seat off an entirely different bike and then pay to have it recovered

go here , you can look up all the yamaha bikes and compare part numbers .

Well this one doesn't have hinges on the side, but it has a different type of hold down or latch in the rear where mine has a sliding bolt on each side. The front looks pretty much the same.

Except for the 3 digit prefix, the seat assy. and cover #'s are exactly the same. The front mount, or damper as it is called there, is exactly the same #.

Maybe I'll get lucky and the rear hold downs will bolt up the same way and interchange.

I'll have Mike send me the pan when he gets it apart and see. If it won't, I can probably mod it to fit without the cover and pad on it.

Thanks for the help TDodge, pictures and part #'s are always the ticket.

I have one of both and the best advice I can give is a gallon of super glue. Seriously, many items appear to interchange but they don't quite make it. Check the UK site for interchangability. I don't remember but it is listed multiple times here. It is very good.

The one hint I can give is that I know that the grab bars (which closely align with the seat) do not interchange. For the PITA of it, I would guess no, and not waste your time/money.

Too late man! I already bought it.

Know anyone with an 80 850 special that would like a highback double? I can have it recovered.

              Blue light special!

              PM me if so

I can't seem to find what your talking about. But then I haven't quite got everything figured out on this site yet. Do I need to Google it?

              A little help PLEASE?

Thanks rpg. I'll give that a try too.

I just listed it in our classifieds also.

Or you could just pick you up an 850 to go with the seat.

It looks too funny with only 1 exhaust pipe on the left side.

It looks like someone pulled off one of it's legs or something.
