  • mechanics motor stand

I'm sure I'm not the first guy to think of one of these. I want to take the motor out and work on it at a comfortable height. Since this isn't the only iron I have in the fire, I may have to move it around in the shop. Anyone have the spec's for a stand to bolt the motor to.

I've seen guys make adapters to hold bike engines to car engine stands. I've considered it myself but I never had enough gumption to do it. I just put the engine on my bike lift and work on it there...

      Make a stand

      I used a FUBARed frame.
Been meaning to change it so it only attaches to the bottom case but have yet to get around to it. Same engine is still on it too.

        Buy a stand!

A German company used to build a stand for the XS1100 engines.

I picked one up from ebay.

          measurement

I haven't stripped it down far enough to get an accurate measurement yet. Can you guy's measure the distance between the lower mounting brackets and width at each point? Yours being clear of the frame will be a lot easier.

I have a set I welded up about two years ago. I'll try to get to the "storage" to measure it this weekend. It bolts to ONLY the bottom of the engine, so it can be stripped while on the stand.

What I want is a cradle for my MC jack that will lift the bike off the ground on it's center of gravity, allow access to the oil drain plug, and not lift on the pipes. Right now, because the pipes are the lowest point, the jack only can lift from there.

Some day I will get around to designing one... I just never think about it until I am already lifting the bike.

Stock pipes allow you to put a chunck of 4X4 on a floor jack and lift between the pipes on the frame.

If not enough room with after market pipes should be easy to make something to sit on the jack and reach between the pipes to frame.
