Question about checking the mid and final drive oil

Hi guys,

I wanted to know how you guys check the fulids in the mid and final drive with out the dip stick that came with the tool kit

Interestingly enough I left mine in Mississippi at my brothers house where I bought my bike and am now in Ohio and desiring to change the gear oil.
I went out and bought the oil today but am afraid to change it because I don't know if I'll short or overfill the drive.

Dip Stick-Mid/Rear drive

I think the dip stick is still available from the dealers. The cost was around $5.00 when I got mine.

I have used a measuring cup measured in ounces. clymers manual calls for 12 ozs in middle gear and 10 ozs in final drive. If you are changing fluid. If you are changing fluids ,you could fill each case ,then use a peice of wire bent at one end as to not drop wire hold bend against top of hole take measurement then make notch at fluid level.self made level check.last year i bought my gear oil checker at my dealer.

The stick is still available at the dealer. I ordered one two weeks ago and got it 3 days later, cost around $5

2H7-2815A-00-00 (Gauge, oil level) is the part number, I think.

Dip Stick's

Somewhere on the XS11 site there is an accurate drawing with dimensions to fabricate your own dip stick.
I used these and have been very happy with their accuracy.
I used some plastic strip about 4mm wide and just marked it at the correct points.
The strip held plastic sprinkler parts together in a kit, I simply cut the length to include cross pieces which sit on the lip of the case.
