  • Fork brace question

I have been looking for one of the bar type fork braces. Found one from a 79 xs650. Anyone know if it will fit my xs1100 MNS?

    Hi John,
I'd suppose it's like the front fender?
XS650 front fenders fit XS11 Standards but not Specials because all the XS series Specials
EXCEPT the XS400 & XS650 carry their front axle on the front of the fork sliders instead of underneath.
Most likely the brace would fit but it's hoops would be in the wrong place on an XS11 Special just like the XS650's fender blade would be.

I've got a black one of those sitting around at the house that I took off my '79 XS1100 Special. I moved up to the tKat brace. If you would want the black one, feel free to make an offer

I put one of those on my 'E', a couple of years ago. I had to "Flex" it apart a little bit to get the bolt holes lined up. If I remember right, I had to remove the tire, and fender. (that job also requires the removal of the brakes.)

Stiffened up the front some, but I ended up taking it off because it was a PITA to clean around.

          Hope this helps.

IF you want a real fork brace, just spend the $100 and get one from TKat! I have one on my Standard and one I painted black on the Midnight Special. They go on in about five minutes and work VERY WELL.

Diver ... I doubt TKat is still makin' fork braces as I have emailed him numerous times in the last 120 with NO reply. I have even had TC check on him ... to no avail.

Think the market would be wide open for another maker to do it .... I have even contacted someone who may be able to produce ...

Check again, I emailed him a few days ago and got a response. I will private message you the info.

edit: it wont let me message you right now, think Tkat would mind if I posted it?

Since the dog park I take my dogs to is less than 3 blocks from TKat's shop, i swung by today. He had already left for the day, but I did get to chat with a fellow XSive that was busy polishing a set of bars in TKat's shop. Apparently TKat was having Internet issues, and email issues with his current provider. Apparently this has been going on for about a month and a half. It's all finally cleared up now, so if you want to send him an email, I'm sure he'd respond to it.

Yeah, Tkat has a better brace. I just like the looks of the bar style MUCH better.

If there are more than three bolts holding it on there, it is most likely a very important part!

i made mine and it works VERY well . i noticed the difference right away..
I thought about starting to make these is there that much of an interest?
                              1978 E XS1100 purchased for =$600.00
crap load of time spent modifying it = Priceless
My bike has the XS motor but can't really call it XS11
(or at least it still looks like the XS motor)
it has about 50% of the frame left from the XS bike
