  • 850 final drive?

The 850 FD is the same as a 750 right. Have an opportunity for an 850 FD but want to be certain before I pick it up.

Yes, as far as I know. Both have been used.

I've been told it's a little easier to swap w/, due to a spacer difference, but others have said that's incorrect.

850 will work fine for you.

Both are geared the same and will work. Not sure about the washer thing, but even if it's true, it's nothing major. Snatch that thing up. I think you'll love it as much as the rest of us do. Good luck..

That's what I used. Same part number as the 750.

Installed per the instructions, and it's still the swap of the century IMHO.

                750 fd

I have a 750 FD somewhere in my shop. Think I might try it out on "Ghost Rider" project. Everything I have hear sounds like a great modification and since it won't be an original build, may as well try it out.

I really want to bring the cruising RPM's down a bit. It seams like it's screamin' at about 70. Should help my milage also. I'm only getting about 27 -29 now mostly around town.

Nah, was just giving you hell.

BTW 27-29 in town really is about right. My FD swap didn't help the mileage out any, but does make the scoot more pleasurable to cruise on.

                        Greg,

It will be like adding another top gear. Should lower your top gear cruising rpm's around 900 or so. Some say they have experienced MPG increases, others say they haven't. If all you do is mostly around town, probably won't help mpg. All highway, long rides, probably would. Best thing about the mod is you don't feel like you need to shift one more time, even though you're already in 5th...

While you guys are looking at all those 750 and 850 final drives see if you can get the exhaust too, I know a guy that's been hunting for an 850 exhaust forever and he said a 750 would do if he got the mounts too as long as it's clean and solid. He's got green $$$ for ya.

Yea, I keep catching myself checking for another gear when I step out onto the highway.

I'm curious though, why put a taller gear in a bike with a smaller engine and less power? (i.e. the 850) Doesn't seem to make sense.
