  • XS 11 engine and frame numbers

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to read my 9 digit engine and frame code ????
    1978 XS1100

When a man talks dirty to a woman, it's sexual harassment. When a woman talks dirty to a man, it's $3.95 a minute.
People are more violently opposed to fur than leather because its safer to harass rich women than motorcycle gangs.
Bikes don't leak oil, they mark their territory.
Four wheels move the body Two wheels move the soul.
Life may begin at 30, but it doesn't get real interesting until about 150

You have a 1978 XS1100E. Also known as a "Standard". That's the only model they made that year. I would wager that you have a flatter seat, square-ish headlight and turn signals and round mirrors. Your front wheel also mounts at the bottom tips of the forks, right?

Hey, this is THE place for XS11 information. I've only been here a year, and I have learned a TON from these people! The folks here really know these bikes, and every question you might ever have about your bike can be answered here.

Make sure you get that title. All you have is a giant paperweight without that (or a parts bike to cannibalize). I know what you mean about not wanting to wait. Waiting for parts to come int he mail is the hardest thing to deal with! If you need a manual, you can download them from the link in my signature.

Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress!

If it has the fairing, it is probably about 34" wide, looks massive, and the windshield is "flat" along the bottom. It should also have a "dash board that looks like you can put a radio in it, with a locking lid on each side. If this is what you have on the bike, DO NOT GET RID OF IT!! You have the "Pacifico" fairing, the best one ever put on an XS, IMHO. The top speed of the bike is NOT cut down because of the fairing, as it cuts the wind MUCH better than most on the market!
Don't forget to search the site, as there are a lot of good tech tips. IF you put your location (city/town) in your sig., you may find a fellow owner close at hand for the time you need a little help.
Welcome to the madness and pleasure that is the XS1100.....

As for that saddle bag chrome, I think your best bet is gonna be ebay or people selling items on here in the "parts for sale" forum. You can post a wanted add in there also. I have a bunch of links to get the regular bike parts on my site in my signature. Just go to the links. On a side note, the majority of the XS650, 750, 850 interchange with these bikes. If unsure... ask. Everyone will be more than happy to help out.
