  • What windshield fits a Standard?

I took Incubus out for a quick ride a few times around the block yesterday, his first voyage. The good news? No problems with the clutch, no slippage or clunking on any gear, great acceleration above 3k rpm. Some sputtering off the line and some backfiring, but I haven't got it idling well enough to set the timing exactly right and I figure I still have some issues in the pilot circuit, but the carbs have only been cleaned once. I also have not yet put the Colortune on it, so I expect some improvement when I adjust the mix.

Meanwhile, I have been wondering what kind of windshield will fit this rectangular headlight. I know I can put a Vetter on there - I actually have a couple out in the shed that aren't being used right now - but I already have Vetters on three bikes, including Succubus the problem child XS11, so I'm looking for a different look.

Can anyone suggest a windshield that won't look out of place around this headlight? This is going to be a handsome bike when I am done with it, so I don't want a mutt barrier on the front.

BTW, I tried to search for an answer, but the site wouldn't let me search for some reason.

    Thanks.

    Patrick

There's a plexistar for sale in the "For sale" section. That will work fine wth the square headlight. It's smaller than a full fairing, but gives a lot of the same protection.

I've got one of these on my '79 standard, and it fits around the square headlight perfectly. It makes riding a little bit warmer, you don't get bugs all over you, and you won't feel like you're about to get blown off the back of the bike at 130 mph. Here's OBB's stock pic -

I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

          Hi Patrick,
my XS11SG came with a handlebar-mounted partial fairing that had a
(since lost, along with the mounting arms)
round/square adapter in it's FRP lower part.
It's still hanging from a hook in my garage. IMHO it's ucking fugly but tastes differ. Black, smoked shield, OK shape.
          Yours for postage.
PM me your postal address if you are interested.

            windshield

I have both windshields for sale. The Plexstar II and a Spitfire. I will make you a deal on either one or both. They both fit a rectangle headlight great.
