  • Powder Coat

Considering the condition the tail light holder was in I was totally impressed how it came out

Front fender was in “not bad, but not good condition"
Both parts now look like new

They did inside and out. Probably will last longer than the bike.
    Pick-up rear fender tomorrow.

Might have completed bike pics soon

          mro,
Just be CAREFUL about the bolt holes!! I had a few parts powder coated, and I DID have to "scrape" a little to get the bolts too go through the holes! When I do the '78, I'll be making the bolt holes just "slightly" larger on ALL the parts.
Everything does look nice, though! Did you strip the chrome off the front fender, or just wet sand it???

That's one of the nice things about powdercoating; as long as the surface is clean/dry, the stuff STICKS. I've coated some chrome stuff, and don't expect to see any problems with peeling. I did some masking on a few parts, and on the places I 'missed' a little I had a godawful time getting the excess coating off without damaging the chrome.....

Well Ray ............. ya coulda, shoulda said something sooner
They blasted the stuff in their cabinet. Rear fender was done but they were not happy with how it turned out so it was sitting in a tank of stripper when I came in. The "un happy" part of the fender was under the seat where there was some pitting which he XSplaned they would fix

SWMBO had a way of dealing with such transgressions.
I'd come home and there would have been a new oven, with a matching new frig etc...

                powdercoat....

I had my frame, battery box, backing plate for fuse box, and various such bits powder coated back in 2003 (about 30000km ago) All is still fine except a few areas on the frame that have been subjected to damage (stones, rough treatment etc)
Problem is that touching up these areas is not very successful and that the finish lost its "shine"
Apart from that - great, low maintenance finish

For those parts that are not so shiny anymore, I have found that you can wetsand and polish powdercoat just like you would paint. If it isn't too bad, you can just use some polishing compound. Works great.
