I got a feeling cam caps would be MUCH easier to come by and/or replace than the cams. Hmmm...maybe ole grandpa Yammie WAS thinkin when they planned this out?

Cam caps may be plentiful, but they aren't a mix/match item. The caps/bearings are line bored together as a set, and the hole bored will be close on all heads, but close means no cigar!.. lol.

When I went to install the 78 cams on my XJ head the first time, I incorrectly figured that I would use the cam caps that came with the cams. When the caps were torqued down, you couldn't even move them (The cams) with a wrench on the spot on the cam given for that. It had it in a bind BAD.

Since heads get bent valves, fins broke, valve seats tore up, spark plug holes stripped, front and back attachment points broke, etc.. and the cams usually wear very little, I would bet there are more cams out there than you think. PLUS.. you can get them re-welded and turned back to stock if they do get out of spec.
