  • Question: Carb / Fuel Mixture Screws

I'm still fiddling with my carbs to get the mixture just right. Anyways, I took off the carbs to turn in the screws then to back out to get a ref setting.

I noticed that on the #1 & #4 carb, the screw bottoms out with the tip slightly protruding past the hole, while #2 & #3 carbs, the screws bottom out with the tip flushed in the hole.

Has the hole enlarged too much on the #1 & #4 carbs for me to get a decent mixture? or can I manage to get a good setting with this issue?

If I need to replace these carbs, does anyone have any to spare. If so, I can barter. I have a parts XS11E with mucho parts available. Unfortuantly, the #1, #2 & #4 carbs, from my parts bike, have one issue or another with them and I can't use them.

I'll continue fiddling with my carb problem and maybe I can solve the problem. I'll check in every now and then to see if anyone has any comments or answers.

    Thanks,

    Sam

not sure on the early model carbs. But on my 81 era carbs, the replacement mixture screws I got in my rebuild kit had a much smaller point to them. They certainly protude through the hole further than the original stock ones did. This may be your issue as well. In my opinion, you can still get a good mixture, you just may not need as many turns out to get the same effect with the ones that protrude fruther into the hole.

Remember that you can't go by a set number of turns. Each carb is going to be different, and as long as it bottoms out and closes the hole, you just need to back it out to the correct setting for that particular carb.

Don't worry about the enlarged holes, you can still tune it that way. The adjustment of the mixture screws will just be a bit more sensitive.
